
The Mariner Tritons came out on top 16-11 after a fierce battle with Cape Coral on Monday night in the 5A District 11 Quarterfinals. The 3 hour battle endured 3 lead changes before Cape Coral tied the game 11-11 in the top of the 6th. Mariner responded with a 5 run 6th inning. The game ended when the Tritons held the Seahawks to 0 runs in the top of the 7th.
Mariner managed to get 15 hits with Morgan Waltz putting up 4 hits on the night. Morgan Waltz and PJ Marino swung for two doubles each joined by Jacob Gorra, Kelan Jamison, and Ryan Kotarski, who also combined for 3 additional doubles. Mariner drew 10 walks and only posted 3 strikeouts. While Mariner saw four pitchers in the game (Brady Jock, Caleb Kiraly, Trenton Taylor, Jael Lawton), Jael Lawton got the win on the night throwing 1.2 innings, allowing 2 hits, and 1 unearned run. The four pitchers combined allowing 14 hits, 11 runs with only 7 earned. They gave up 8 walks and posted 5 strikeouts.
Cape Coral answered Mariner with 14 hits of their own led by Julious Sinboualay with 3 hits. The Seahawks came to play but were unable to hang on in the end.
Mariner will face Fort Myers, Tuesday evening @ 7PM at Fort Myers High School in the 5A District 11 Semifinals. The winner of this game will face the winner of the Charlotte and North Fort Myers match-up. Charlotte and North Fort Myers will face off Tuesady evening @ 7Pm at Charlotte High School.
